CTG Brasil was founded in October 2013, and entered the Brazilian power market by acquiring from EDP 50% of equity of Jari, Cachaoeira Caldeiráo hydropower plants and then 33.3% of S?o Manoel in a partnership with EDP and Furnas, a subsidiary of Eletrobras.  

2015, CTG Brasil acquired 100% stake in Garibaldi and Salto hydropower stations and in the year 2016 won the bid for 30- year concession of Jupia and Ilha Solteira hydropower stations in the southeast of Brazil.

In May of 2015, CTG Brasil acquired 49% of 11 wind farms (operating, under construction and development) across the country. The wind farms, together, will have an installed capacity of 328.6 MW. The purchase of Duke Energy Brazil in 2016 brought CTG's total installed capacity in Brazil to 8.1 GW. Today, CTG Brasil is the second largest private energy generator of the country with the main objective of generating quality energy from renewable sources.

On July 2016, Hydro Global, a joint venture between CTG and EDP has signed a contract with Empresa de Genaracion Electrica San Gaban (EGESG) in Peru to develop the 209.3 MW San Gaban III hydropower project.
