CTG in Asia

CTG takes the countries along the Belt and Road Initiative as an important market with priority and widely participates in clean energy cooperation through forms of greenfield investment, equity acquisitions, project contracting etc. A number of clean energy projects have been developed in Pakistan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Nepal, for which CTG also actively participated in the research and planning of power, grid as well as river basin as needed.

 The Silk Road Fund, established by China, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), have become shareholders of China Three Gorges South Asia Investment Limited (CSAIL) so as to jointly promote clean energy projects in Pakistan. CSAIL has invested in the Karot and Kohala hydropower plants on Jehlum River. The 720 MW Karot Hydropower Project is one of the largest foreign investment and infrastructure projects in Pakistan. This project has been chartered in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Priority Projects List. The project is being developed under the Power Policy 2002 on a BOOT basis, with an expected concession period of about 35 years, which includes the construction period of five years and the operation period of 30 years.

 CTG built its first wind farm overseas in Pakistan, one of the pioneering wind projects, with an installed capacity of 49.5 MW. Initial commercial operation begun on November 25, 2014. In addition, CSAIL acquired rights to operate second phase wind power projects which is currently under construction.

 In Nepal, CWE developed the 25-MW Upper Madi hydropower project, under the BOOT model together with Nepalese investor Bijay Babu Malla.

 In Southeast Asia, CTG helps Laos tap its rich hydro potential to meet power demands. CTG constructed and operated the Nam Lik 1-2 and Nam Ngiep II Hydropower Stations in the mode of BOT, and is currently preparing for the development of the Nam Kong 1 hydropower project.
