Xiluodu Hydropower Station

Located at the Jinsha River, one of the primary tributaries of the Yangtze River, Xiluodu Hydropower Station is backbone power supply project for China's "West-to-East Electricity Transmission" project. The station also provides other benefits such as flood control, sediment retaining and improving the navigation conditions of downstream reaches.

Xiluodu Hydropower Station is composed of structures such as barrage, flood discharge structure, diversion structure and power generation structure. The barrage is a concrete double-curvature arch dam, with the dam crest elevation of 610m and the maximum dam height of 285.50m.

It contains eighteen 770 MW units, with a total installed capacity of 13.86 GW, generating an annual average of 61.62 TWh electricity in the long run. At the normal impoundment level, it can support a reservoir capacity of 11.57 billion cubic meters, including 4.65 billion for ?ood control purposes.

Xiluodu hydropower Station started construction in 2005, before the river was diverted around the construction site in 2007. The first generating units were commissioned in July 2013, and the fnal one on June 30, 2014. In September 2016, Xiluodu hydropower Station won the FIDIC Outstanding Project of the Year Award 2016.
